Through “Debunking the Meat Myth,” Freston attempts to convince her audience that eating animal protein is harmful to the health of humans. Although most vegetarian diets (if followed precisely) are very healthy, practicing a diet that includes meat is not necessarily as harmful as you imply. Freston quotes Dr. William C. Roberts, editor of the American Journal of Cardiology, on the topic of saturated fats and cholesterol. He states: “When we kill animals for food, they end up killing us…” (Freston). This statement however is an example of oversimplification and a call to the toilet, in reference to the power of death. In reality, there are a variety of factors that contribute to an individual's overall health, and the consumption of animal products, in and of itself, has not been proven by scientific evidence to cause death.
